As was described before the tightness testing of hatches is one of activity of ultrasonic control department A/m department unites of the technicians obtained sufficient experience on shiprepair yard “Ukraine” and in subdivisions of BLASCO at the previous years. They ensured carrying out of repairs and measurements on ships, implemented written systems for inspection, reporting and testing under approval of Germanischer Lloyd, Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and Ukrainian Register of Shipping.

Supervisor
Mr. Vadim Mokrov is person responsible for the correct execution of tightness testing of hatches, the professional standard of the technician’s and their equipment as well as for the professional administration of the working routines. He is responsible for training of operators, carries out training and examination.
He has great experience in practical operation and has qualification according to Certificate of Competence. |

Technicians
Each engages technicians have to present documents that confirm his education, qualification, experience of work and recommendation from previous job.
Staff of Ultrasonic Control Department has higher education by shipbuilding engineer profession. They has a perfect knowledge in hull’s structures, as it is the basis of skill gotten in Institute of Marine Engineers, as same as a practice knowledge gotten during practical training at ship repair yards.
Operators of our company use for carrying out of tightness testing of hatches on board vessel following documents: “Shipbuilding and Repair Quality Standard”, requirements of class society, requirements of clients. These documents determine the methods of gauging. |

Company has portable equipment for carrying out tightness testing of hatch covers.
The portable ultrasonic test system (further as “PUTS”) used by specialist of our company are a product of well-known manufacturer, that SDT company, and correspond to International standards and approved by.
The PUTS functionate by following means:

Ultrasonic waves produced by transmitter installed within an enclosed body are released through the tiniest opening. Any leak may then be easily detected by means of the receiver. |

The measured signals can immediately be listened to and their value can be recorded. |
Project definition phase

It is necessary to study: name, type, year of build, design features, general properties and data of the vessel. |

Determine a type of survey and correspondent requirements of class society. |

Coordinate a consecution of works with top management of vessel, superintendent of vessel (if present) in view of vessel’s load, availability of holds. Make a project with time line and get agree with a/m persons.
Remark: preparing a vessel’s locations, like a holds and etc. to be carried out by vessel’s crew. |
Carrying a measurements on board vessel
The appointed specialist when come on board have to:

Make a preliminary visual inspection of holds, determine an areas with corrosion wear and other types of wear, if present. |

Make a adjusting of ultrasonic test system using guideline in product manual. |

Install the ultrasonic multitransmitter SDT 8 into hold, as described in product manual. |

Close the put down a hatch covers. |

Make a measurements. |

Put measurements into form for registration of measurements. |
